Since its founding in 1879, the company has always orientated itself on the technological progress and ever changing customer demands. Originating from the malleable cast-iron foundry whose first location was in the centre of Stuttgart, Germany, over the decades they developed themselves into a highly-specialised and innovative company for chair and furniture casters. The caster production began in 1960 with their own plastic injection moulding facilities and five years later they specialised themselves in chrome-plated ball and furniture casters. In 1985, the GROSS STABIL CORPORATION / USA was founded and in 1997, the location of the mother company was relocated to Weil der Stadt, Germany.

Other important events in the company history were when they moved into the new office in Coldwater, Michigan USA and then in 2007, the construction of a production line for the new and award-winning caster "MOVE" product range. Next, the market introduction of the MOVE dynamic and MOVE elegance casters in 2009 and the market introduction of the "movetto" high-performance caster.

Gross + Froelich set benchmarks combining design and function which was rewarded with the internationally renowned reddot design award in 2011 and 2012.
